What a day we had out on the water! I met up with George and his son Issac in the early morning at the Code Red Fishing Charters in New Smyrna Beach, FL, ready to hit the water for our 4-Hour Fishing Charter. March is a fantastic time to be fishing in these parts, with the warming waters bringing in all sorts of inshore species to the Mosquito Lagoon.The weather was perfect, with partly cloudy skies overhead and great water conditions as we launched the boat. We wasted no time getting our lines in the water, using light tackle to work the flats and see what we could find. It wasn't long before their rods bent over, and they were into a nice Black Drum! That fish put up a great fight, making some strong runs before we were able to get it in the boat. We continued working the area, mixing in some live bait and lures, and managed to hook into a few more Black Drum throughout the morning.While the bite was a bit sporadic at times, that just made the catches that much more exciting. Between the fish, we took in the beautiful scenery of the Mosquito Lagoon - the clear waters, the lush mangroves, and the incredible birdlife all around us. It was the perfect backdrop for a relaxing yet productive day of inshore fishing. The rain rolled in during the afternoon, but we didn't let that dampen our spirits. It was a beautiful day to be out on the water with Scott Brown for our 4-Hour Morning Fishing Trip here in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. July is a prime time for inshore fishing, as the warming waters bring the Redfish (Red Drum) and other species closer to the surface, making for some incredible action. The weather was a bit on the cloudy side, with some light rain throughout the day, but the water conditions were great - nice and clear, perfect for spotting baitfish and our target species. 

We launched out of the Code Red Fishing Charters dock right at 6am and wasted no time getting the lines in the water. I started Scott off with some live bait fishing, chumming the area to get the Redfish fired up. It didn't take long before his rod doubled over - he had a nice Redfish on the line! After a solid fight, we got that beauty in the boat and high-fived. The bite stayed strong throughout the morning, and we managed to hook into a few more Redfish, each one putting up an incredible battle. Scott was all smiles, loving the thrill of feeling that powerful fish on the other end of the line.

In between the Redfish action, we also spotted some nice Flounder and Snook cruising the shallows, but we decided to focus our efforts on the Redfish, knowing they'd give us the best fight. The rain never really let up, but it didn't seem to bother the fish or dampen our spirits - we were out on the water, enjoying the day and each catch. That's the magic of a trip like this - the combination of great fishing, amazing scenery, and good company makes it an unforgettable experience.

Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report - November 1, 2024

The redfish bite was excellent, especially around shallow grass flats and sandy potholes. 

Some juvenile tarpon are still active in the area, but they’re becoming less predictable.

Black drum are schooling up in some of the deeper holes and channels around Mosquito Lagoon. 

Weather and Conditions: The weather on November 1st was perfect for fishing, with calm winds around 5-10 mph and temperatures in the high 60s to low 70s. The cooler air and water temperatures have increased fish activity, especially inshore, and the water is exceptionally clear, providing ideal sight-fishing opportunities.

Wind Conditions: Light, steady winds kept the waters calm throughout the day, allowing for comfortable fishing and great casting control. These conditions make it easier to spot fish moving through the flats and around the structures.

Fishing Conditions: Fall fishing at Mosquito Lagoon is in full swing, with baitfish still plentiful in the area, drawing in large numbers of inshore predators. Early mornings and late afternoons have been the most productive times to fish, as the fish are most active in the cooler hours. This is a great time for sight fishing, especially with the water clarity currently high and fish feeding aggressively.
